Diversity beyond gender – Short Story 1 – Ethnicity

Australia is widely celebrated as a multicultural triumph, but any such success remains incomplete. Our society does not yet appear to be making the most of its diverse talents. A new Human Rights Commission study of almost 2,500 Australian leaders across business, government, politics and higher education has found a significant under-representation of cultural diversity in senior leadership in Australia. Media and advertising can play a role in normalising multicultural leadership and representation in Australia.

Case studies – we got serious about diversity and this happened – Time’s Up Advertising

Three months ago in the US, 200 female CEOs, ECDs and MDs announced ‘Time’s Up Advertising’. The creative industry’s response to the global movement that grew out of Hollywood’s #MeToo moment. Those senior women signed a pledge committing to the cause and recognised that they had a responsibility to the people around them and the power to change the business they are in. Now it’s time for the senior women in Australian agencies to do the same. But what does the movement mean in Australia and what does the adverting and media community need from its senior female leaders? Incoming McCann Australia CEO Nicole Taylor steps forward to introduce Time’s Up Advertising – Australia.
